Red Letter Day (2014)

Crime scene eyes,
Murderous lies;
Rag doll limbs
In a scarlet demise.

Passers-by watch a fate they narrowly avoided,
All too real when blood is spilled.
Fears evoked behind tightly sealed lips; a torturous ordeal.
You’ve got time to kill, so put your shoulder to the wheel.

But you just can’t look away now, can you?
Crime scene eyes, venomous cries;
Authorities suspect foul play.
Tragedy is your red letter day.

Be that as it may,
There will be press coverage later today:
“Drunk driver kills three” splashed across the front page.
Oh, what a sight to see!

Your heart’s set on playing Russian Roulette,
So you live your life in the fast lane; no regrets.
Preoccupied with lies to try and stay sane.
You’ve made your bed, now lie in it.

Scarlet stains your hands and your headlights.
Escape in your get-away car; comply to save face.
If the news is your cigar,
Our indifference is the flame.

Let the flames grow higher;
Smoke show in the rear view mirror.
Oh, what a sight to see!
Tragedy is your red letter day – and you just can’t look away.

About humblefoot

Kyle Fisher (who often uses the alias Logan Rowley online and in his writing) has been enjoying writing since he was just 8 years old. His first formal publication was at the age of 13. He is now a spiritualist and openly queer author, perpetually searching for inspiration to create and learn more about the world around him. He is always drawn to the simplicity and uniqueness that life has to offer. He doesn’t identify with labels or socially constructed ideas about how the world should be. He believes that the world is your oyster, and that we all project our own destinies with the thoughts we choose to harbour about the universe. He is an idealistic, spiritualistic hippie who is just trying to find his place in this world, crafting each word to leave his mark, and promote love and equality among all people.
