Spirit In the Dark – Part 4: “The Siren Song”

Spirit in the dark,
You keep me from falling apart –
Even when I’m in the shadows
I know there’s still a part of me
That can never break away.
I’ve been waiting for the sun
On an endless stormy day.

Watched all the flames burn away
The fibres of our dreams;
Even among ashes life is more than what it seems.
And though as a boy in the games I always lost,
Now no one can stop me at any cost.

Got this life of my own;
Just an amiable flame.
Money don’t mean a thing now;
And we’ll see our fate through,
Some way, somehow.
When it’s hot, I’m hot;
So listen to me sing:

Even through the rain,
I’ll scorch through the mud,
I’ll dance through the pain.
Listen to me sing
A siren song;
I’m drifting among the sand,
Through the soot and the stars
To the Promised Land.

Got it all figured out
With those stains on our sleeve;
Got to be strong
For our humanity.
And though as a boy I always seemed weak,
When you call my name it sounds so sweet.
But don’t lose your cool;
Stay on your feet.
I told you once before –
You’re destined for so much more
Shake it out now; do your thing.
Now listen while I sing:

Even through the rain,
I’ll trudge through the mud,
I’ll get down with the pain.
Hear me sing
A siren song;
Go wandering the sand,
Through the soot and the stars
To the Promised Land.

Spirit in the dark,
You hold my world up high
Like a buoyant ocean in the sky.
I’ll keep you safe in my heart,
‘Til Mother Earth falls apart.
Forever now with eyes wide open;
I’ve sang my siren song,
The curtains are now closing.

About humblefoot

Kyle Fisher (who often uses the alias Logan Rowley online and in his writing) has been enjoying writing since he was just 8 years old. His first formal publication was at the age of 13. He is now a spiritualist and openly queer author, perpetually searching for inspiration to create and learn more about the world around him. He is always drawn to the simplicity and uniqueness that life has to offer. He doesn’t identify with labels or socially constructed ideas about how the world should be. He believes that the world is your oyster, and that we all project our own destinies with the thoughts we choose to harbour about the universe. He is an idealistic, spiritualistic hippie who is just trying to find his place in this world, crafting each word to leave his mark, and promote love and equality among all people.
